I've traveled more times this year than I ever have in 12 months. And it's been such a blessing. I've been able to meet different artists and hear their stories, and receive from a variety of faith and art communities that have different assignments and focus on different aspects of this faith-art experience. It is amazing to see the incredible things God is up to throughout His body. These interactions and encounters always lead me to reflect on the assignment God has given me with the Kingdom Artist Institute. At the same time, my church has been teaching about living as a new creation in Christ, about this new life we have in Him, including what He did for us in His death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and seating; who and what we now are because of what He did; what we've received in what He did; and what changed for us because of what He did. I've tried to describe what we do here in a lot of different ways. Sometimes that was because I mistook a feature or aspect of what we do for the essence of what we do (which often happens when you're building a new work and learning what you're really holding). Sometimes that was because I didn't feel confident that the simple communication of what we're doing sounded enticing enough. I thought it had to be more to be attractive. But the Holy Spirit has settled that stuff. And here's the simple thing you and I are here to learn, and learn how to live in: What it means to be a Kingdom artist; to be an artist in and of the Kingdom of God. In that, there's a simple and powerful reality: saying yes to God and receiving Christ's gift of salvation has changed everything about the artists we are, how we employ these creative gifts God has given us, and how we flesh out these creative visions He's filled us with. We use the same elements as artists who are not in Christ, but the way we manage and employ those elements is different because we do so by the leading of the Holy Spirit. So what does it mean and look like to be an artist in this "in-Christ" reality? How do we flourish here? What should we be focusing on here? Everything else is an aspect and element of this. I love how the Holy Spirit re-aligns, clarifies, and gets to the heart of a matter. Amen!
